LHC orders to produce Pervaiz Elahi on Tuesday, issues contempt of court against IG
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered on Monday to recover Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) President and former chief minister of Punjab Pervaiz Elahi from the Attock jail and produce him before the court tomorrow (Tuesday).
The LHC also issued a contempt of court notice to the Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad police while issuing directions the District and Sessions Judge to produce Elahi in the court tomorrow.
Be reminded that LHC Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafiq heard the petition filed by the PTI president’s wife Qaisara Elahi, seeking contempt proceedings against the DIGs for allegedly disobeying LHC’s order barring the authorities from arresting or detaining Elahi.
Earlier, the LHC sought a response from DIG Investigation Imran Kishwar and DIG Operations Ali Nasir Rizvi after Elahi’s wife sought contempt proceedings against the officials for disobeying court orders and arresting her husband.
Justice Rafiq had earlier instructed the officials to appear in court by 11am. However, a police spokesperson told the court that the officers were not in the province.
The LHC judge then inquired about the officials’ absence and warned of issuing a notice over their failure to appear in court.
DIG Security Kamran Adil arrived in court but the judge said that the official had not been summoned in the case. Subsequently, the judge instructed all the respondents to submit their responses in court by 2pm.
However, the DIG Investigation and DIG Operations failed to appear before the court.
