KP Caretaker CM Azam Khan’s funeral offered in Charsadda
PESHAWAR: (Suno News) Funeral prayers for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Caretaker Chief Minister Muhammad Azam Khan were offered Saturday in Charsadda. He had passed away due to a heart attack at a private hospital in Peshawar. He was 89.
Azam Khan had a severe stomach infection and was admitted to Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) in Peshawar Friday night where he breathed his last due to a heart attack.
RMI spokesman Shabbir Shah said that Azam Khan was in critical condition, for he had been suffering from several diseases. “He was kept in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital,” he added.
“Azam Khan underwent different tests including a CT scan. He was diagnosed with hernia,” he stated. “Doctors at the hospital made utmost efforts to save Azam Khan, but they failed,” he added.
Azam Khan was a former bureaucrat, and he was sworn in as the caretaker chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on January 21, 2023.
A Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln’s Inn, London, Azam Khan had earlier served as minister for interior, capital administration, and development in the caretaker cabinet of former prime minister Nasir-ul-Mulk in 2018.
He also remained the provincial minister for finance, planning, and development in the KP caretaker cabinet of CM Shamsul Mulk between October 2007 and April 2008 and served in key positions in the federal and provincial governments.
He also served as the KP chief secretary between September 1990 and July 1993, and he also remained the chairman of the Pakistan Tobacco Board.
Azam Khan was the brother of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) and ex-caretaker provincial minister Abbas Khan. He was a cousin of Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of KP Caretaker CM Muhammad Azam Khan. He prayed for the rest of the departed soul in eternal peace and the grant of patience to the bereaved family.
“Azam Khan served the people all his life as a dutiful and competent officer. His role as a public officer will be a beacon for all civil servants. He served as the caretaker chief minister of KP in difficult times. He took all possible measures to prevent smuggling and maintain law and order in the province.
Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman
Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman expressed grief over the death of Azam Khan and said that he had been saddened by the sudden death of Azam Khan. He prayed for the rest of the departed soul in eternal peace and the grant of patience to the bereaved family.
Punjab CM Mohsin Naqvi
Punjab Caretaker CM Mohsin Naqvi expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of Azam Khan. He expressed his heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the bereaved family. He said that he was deeply saddened by the death of Azam Khan. “His services to the country and KP will always be remembered,” he added.
Sindh CM Maqbool Baqar
Sindh Caretaker CM Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar expressed deep sorrow over the death of Azam Khan. He prayed for the rest of the departed soul in eternal peace and the grant of high status in Paradise.
Ex-PM Shehbaz Sharif
Former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed grief and condolence over the death of Azam Khan. He said that Azam Khan had served as a civil servant with honesty and professionalism.
Shehbaz Sharif said that Azam Khan belonged to a family in which many members had served the country and the nation with great sincerity.
“Azam Khan worked with great zeal and sincerity during the campaign to help the flood victims,” he added.
