Irregular school timings extended across Punjab
LAHORE: (Suno News) Due to severe fog and cold weather in the Punjab province, the provincial government has extended the school timings already notified until January 31.
“In continuation of this department’s notification of even No. dated 08-01-2024, the timings already notified are hereby extended till 31st of January in all public and private schools across the province. The schools shall resume regular timings from 01-02-2024,” says a notification issued here on Saturday.
According to details, the Punjab government had extended the special school timings from 9 am to 11:15 am until January 18. The notification mentioned that the Punjab government has directed all private and public schools to adhere to the extended timings due to smog and severe cold.
Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced holidays for children from nursery to prep class until January 22, taking note of the deaths of 36 children due to pneumonia on January 10, 2024. In light of the pneumonia outbreak, the Chief Minister held an emergency meeting at Children’s Hospital. He ordered the closure of class one schools for a week.
A significant decision was made during the meeting, imposing a morning assembly restriction on schools across Punjab until January 31. In the high-level meeting, extensive consultations were held on preventing pneumonia and taking precautionary measures, along with making important decisions.
The meeting also instructed for vaccination against pneumonia for children and older individuals. He stated that 8 out of 10 children are affected by pneumonia, and the number of deaths is higher in children under six months. He emphasized the need for an immediate campaign for pneumonia prevention on social and national media. It was recommended that children and adults should use warm clothing and consume nutritious food, and children with pneumonia should be prevented from attending school.
