Internet won’t be shut down on Election Day: PTA
ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has clarified that the government will not shut down the internet on Election Day.
The PTA has confirmed that the internet facility will be available to the users on Election Day, adding that the internet will work without any interruption.
On the other hand, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a letter to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) in which the latter was instructed to ensure the implementation of the code of conduct for national media on the day of general elections 2024.
In the letter, it was said that PEMRA should inform the media not to broadcast any material against Pakistan’s ideology, sovereignty, security, independence of judiciary, and national institutions.
Apart from this, no allegation or statement against national unity should be broadcast on electronic, social, and digital media.
It was also said in the letter that no material should be aired that might disturb the law and order situation during or after the polling process.
No survey should be conducted at polling stations on Election Day in print, electronic, or digital media.
Apart from this, it was also directed that PEMRA should ensure that no fake news is broadcast on Election Day.
Inconclusive unofficial results can be broadcast one hour after the end of polling. During polling, it should be ensured that the media does not disturb the election process.
