Independents maintain electoral dominance with 101 NA seats
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) The independent candidates have won 101 National Assembly seats, PML-N 75 while PPP has grabbed 24 seats as the provisional election results for 264 out of 266 constituencies have been announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The result of one constituency has been withheld by the ECP while in NA-8constituency, election could not be held due to the murder of the candidate.
As per the provisional results issued so far, independent candidates have managed to grab 101 seats. Out of these 101 seats, 92 seats have been won by PTI-supported candidates while nine are general independent candidates. PML-N is holding second position by securing 75 seats while the PPP stands at third with 54 seats.
Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) won NA 17 seats, JUI four, PML-Q three while the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party and Balochistan National Party have won two seats each. Moreover, one NA seat each has been secured by the MWM, National Party, PML-Z, Balochistan Awami Party, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party.
For the first time in the country’s history, independent candidates have achieved a significant dominance over the mainstream political parties especially in the National Assembly and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s contests.
Polling for the General Election 2024 concluded overall in a peaceful manner on Thursday at 5 pm after commencing simultaneously across the country at 8 am. The nine-hour polling continued without any break to provide maximum time to citizens to exercise their right to vote enshrined in the constitution.
According to the ECP, over 128 million registered voters were scheduled to exercise their democratic right by casting votes for candidates participating in elections for the national and provincial legislatures. The polling was held for 265 seats of the National Assembly and 590 seats of provincial assemblies.
