Imran says PTI enjoys army support

RAWALPINDI: (Suno News) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has said that his party enjoys full support from Pakistan Army.

Talking to the media in Adiala Jail, the former prime minister said that no independent inquiry was conducted in May 9 case. The Caretaker government and the Election Commission of Pakistan have connived but the Pakistan Army was with PTI, he said. “They (PTI opponents) can do whatever they want, take the election symbol. They cannot defeat us in the election,” he said.

Imran said that he had never seen such pre-poll rigging as being done today in the country. He said his opponents would also try to rig the elections on February 8. He said that the PTI was not being given level playing field because of defeat they suffered in the last by-elections. “My hand is on the pulse of the people. Public anger will come out on February 8. I have only one deal and that is to conduct fair and transparent elections and bring democracy ,” he said.

He maintained that his political opponents were going to harm the country. These are not elections but a struggle for freedom, he said.  “I heard that Section 144 has been imposed across Punjab after I announced the launch of election campaign on Sunday. Now, PTI will not be given permission to hold meetings and rallies, he maintained.

Yesterday, the Punjab government imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) across the province till February 12. The decision was made amid reports of “threats to the law and order situation” during the upcoming general elections of February 8.

Under Section 144 (power of district administration to issue orders in the public interest), the government may impose a ban on a specific activity for a designated period.

The notification said “there exist threats to law and order situation and public peace” in the province during the February 8 elections. It said, “In the wake of these elections, a large number of political gatherings, rallies, corner meetings are likely to be held by the contesting candidates and political parties for 141 and 297 seats of the National and provincial assembly, respectively, all over Punjab which may serve as soft targets for any desperate act by terrorists and miscreants.”
