Imran, Bushra Bibi sentenced to 14 years in prison in Toshakhana case

RAWALPINDI: (Suno News) An accountability court sentenced both Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 14 years in prison with hard labour in the Toshakhana reference.

The court also barred Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi from holding any public office for 10 years and also imposed a fine of Rs787 million on both of them. Accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir pronounced the verdict in the Toshakhana case.

On Jan 9, the court indicted Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana and £190 million references during a hearing in Adiala Jail. The references had been filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

In the Toshakhana reference, Imran Khan was accused of not disclosing information about the gifts from various heads of state deposited in the Toshakhana and the sales revenue he earned by selling those gifts directly in the market.

PTI’s response

The PTI deplored the award of a 14-year sentence to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case.

In a statement released on social media platform X, the party said: “Complete destruction of every existing law in Pakistan in 2 days. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have faced yet another kangaroo trial in which no right to defence was given to both. Like cipher, this case has no basis to stand in any Higher court. It’s shameful how a complete disregard and mockery of law is in place.”

Cipher case sentence

On Jan 30, the special Official Secrets Act (OSA) court sentenced both former premier Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to 10 years in prison in the cipher case.

Special OSA court judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain pronounced the verdict in the case, sentencing both Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi to 10 years in prison with hard labour.

On Jan 27, the special OSA court judge appointed state defence counsels after the lawyers for Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi did not appear for the hearing of the cipher case in Adiala Jail.

It is to be noted here that the cipher case pertains to the diplomatic document which allegedly went missing from the possession of Imran Khan.
