IHC approves Nawaz Sharif’s protective bail; bars his arrest until Oct 24
Islamabad: (Suno News) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday approved former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s protective bail in Al-Azizia and Avenfield references until October 24.
A two-member IHC bench, comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, pronounced the verdict.
The court directed the authorities not to arrest the PML-N supremo at the airport.
“Action will be taken if Nawaz Sharif does appear before the court by October 24,” the court warned.
The big relief came before Nawaz Sharif’s impending arrival on October 21 in Islamabad.
The lawyers for Nawaz Sharif, including former law minister Azam Nazir Tarar and Amjad Pervaiz, appeared before the court.
The prosecutors of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rana Maqsood, Qureshi and Naeem Sanghera were also present on the occasion.
“The court had previously granted protective bail to individuals declared absconders but willing to surrender before the court,” Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Amjad Pervaiz argued before the court.
“The NAB has no objection to Nawaz Sharif’s bail,” NAB prosecutor Naeem Sanghera informed the IHC.
“These instructions have come from the NAB prosecutor general,” he added.
Also, an accountability court in Islamabad approved former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s plea for protective bail and suspended his perpetual arrest warrants until October 24 in the Toshakhana case.
Accountability Court judge Muhammad Bashir pronounced the reserved verdict.
“The arrest warrants will automatically be restored if Nawaz Sharif does appear in court on October 24,” the judge warned.
