LAHORE (Web Desk): The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) announced that Pakistan will launch a nationwide anti-polio vaccination campaign from December 15 to 21.

Punjab alone will vaccinate more than 23 million children, while over 10.6 million children in Sindh are targeted. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will cover 7.2 million children, and Balochistan over 2.6 million.

Islamabad will get 460,000 children vaccinated, Gilgit-Baltistan 228,000, and Azad Kashmir more than 760,000 children. NEOC said the drive is part of Pakistan’s intensified efforts to fully eradicate polio.

The October campaign fell short of its goals, missing 1,096,525 children due to unavailability or refusal. Overall, the previous campaign reached 98% of its target, with coverage below 95% in 15 districts and exceeding 98% in 113 districts.

Gilgit-Baltistan recorded the highest coverage at 101%, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa vaccinated 94% of children. Punjab, Sindh, Azad Kashmir, and Islamabad achieved 99%, and Balochistan reached 97% coverage.

This December drive aims to fill the gaps left by the October campaign and ensure that no child is left unvaccinated against polio.
