ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) leader Firdous Ashiq Awan offered an apology to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for slapping a policeman on Election Day.
A two-member ECP bench, headed by ECP Member Justice (r) Ikramullah, heard the case. During the hearing, Firdous Ashiq Awan said “When I went to cast my vote, the official was stamping the ballot papers. I complained to the presiding officer and he said they (policemen) are not listening to him either.”

The ECP Punjab Member questioned, “Will you slap if someone does not listen to you?” to which Firdous Ashiq Awan replied that she had not slapped the policeman.
Upon her denial, the ECP Punjab Member directed to play the video of her slapping the policeman. At this, Firdous Ashiq said to the ECP Member “You should also play the video given by me.”
The ECP Member said, “If you had any grievances, you should have filed a complaint. There was a peaceful polling at all the polling stations except this one.”
The ECP sought a written reply from Firdous Ashiq Awan by February 15 for slapping the policeman.
While talking to the media outside the ECP office, Firdous Ashiq Awan said that she had appeared before the bench on an ECP notice.
“I and my lawyers appeared in the courtroom no. 1 in the election commission. My lawyers requested that a copy of the report based on which the summon notice was issued by the election commission be provided [to us]. The election commission has accepted our request and sought a written answer by Feb 15,” she stated.
The IPP leader said, “We never take the law into our hands. If no one does anything, the people are forced to take the law into their hands. A conclusion cannot be drawn based on a video. The police were silent spectators in the video we have.”
