Fawad Chaudhry boycotts elections

ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) In a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has announced a boycott of the elections accusing the ECP of failing to perform its duties.

Fawad Chaudhry’s letter to the ECP will be submitted by his brother Faisal Chaudhry Advocate.

Fawad Chaudhry, in his letter, claimed that his colleagues had been threatened and arrested and their nomination papers had been rejected without justification.

“When my brother’s nomination papers were approved, he was made a co-accused in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB),” he alleged.

“The ECP has failed miserably in performing its duties. The elections are being held in such a way that is not constitutional. The Constitution is the basis of democracy, and the power of the state is the trust of the people. The ECP unconstitutionally did not hold elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) against the Constitution,” he added.

“I was arrested so that I myself would withdraw from the elections. When my brother Faraz went to submit the papers, he was arrested and told not to be seen in Jhelum again. Despite these conditions, I, my wife, and brother Faisal Chaudhry submitted the nomination papers,” he wrote in his letter to the ECP.

“Then the returning officer (RO) rejected my nomination papers on the basis of plots in a society which does not exist. Then there was an objection in the court that we did not disclose our easy paisa account. When the nomination papers of brother Faisal Chaudhry were accepted, he was made a co-accused in a NAB case,” he added.

“What will happen in the elections when the results are already decided? I will bear the pain myself. I don’t want to put the workers, family, and friends in trouble,” he stated.

Fawad Chaudhry wrote in the letter, “My group announces a complete boycott of this fake election process. The ECP is a complete failure and asking ECP officials to resign is a waste of time. The government formed by such elections will not only lose its moral but also its legal mandate.”
