Ex-minister Aslam Iqbal’s brother announces quitting PTI
LAHORE: (Suno News) Mian Amjad Iqbal, brother of former minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Mian Aslam Iqbal, Friday announced quitting the PTI.
In a statement, he said that he did not believe in the politics of resistance.
“The path that the PTI has taken thus far is strictly against the development and construction of the country,” he said.
“I believe in the betterment of people and playing a constructive role in it,” he added.
He also announced contesting the election as an independent candidate from PP-171 in place of his brother Mian Aslam Iqbal.
On November 9, senior PTI leader Ali Nawaz Awan was arrested from the Battal area of Mansehra, according to a private news channel.
The former state minister had been in hiding since the May 9 events.
The police had declared him a fugitive and launched a search for his arrest. The police were informed about his presence in the Battal area of Mansehra, and he was arrested subsequently.
The PTI also claimed that the party’s Additional Secretary General Ali Nawaz Awan had been arrested the other night from Battal, Mansehra, and moved to an unknown location. The PTI demanded that he should be produced before the court immediately.
In addition, former minister Zulfi Bukhari’s post about Ali Nawaz also confirmed that Ali Nawaz had allegedly been arrested.
A video statement of Ali Nawaz Awan also surfaced on Twitter in which the PTI leader can be heard saying that the entire Pakistan condemns the May 9 events. “But the PTI leaders were first arrested and sent to jail, and they were forced to hold press conferences to condemn the May 9 events and announce leaving the party,” he had added.
“I am in the PTI, and I will remain in it. But if I am arrested, and after that I appear in a video or a press conference, people will understand that I am under pressure and recording my statement under coercion,” he had stated.
