(Web Desk): Talha Anjum’s unexpected moment waving the Indian flag in Nepal sparks regional conversation, blending music, symbolism and cross-border emotions on stage.

Pakistani rapper Talha Anjum ignited a heated debate after he waved the Indian flag during a concert in Kathmandu, Nepal, a gesture that has drawn polarized reactions from fans back home.

Videos from the performance show the 30-year-old artist holding up the Indian Flag, even draping it around his shoulders mid-song.

His partner on stage, rapper Talha Yunus, reciprocated by waving the Nepalese flag, an act many saw as a tribute to their host country.

While some praised Anjum’s act as a powerful message of peace and unity, especially in a region marked by tense political lines, others in Pakistan reacted sharply.

Critics argued that waving the flag of a neighboring nation with which Pakistan has historically fraught relations was inappropriate, though his supporters defended the moment as an artist’s expression beyond borders.

Responding to the backlash, Anjum took to X (formerly Twitter), writing:

“My heart has no place for hate. My art has no borders. If me raising an Indian flag sparks controversy so, be it … I’ll do it again … Urdu rap is and will always be borderless.”
