(Web Desk): George “Fiji” Veikoso, a beloved island reggae singer and co-writer of the Baywatch Hawaii theme song, has sadly passed away at the age of 55.

George “Fiji” Veikoso, a famous island reggae singer and songwriter, has passed away at the age of 55. He was best known for co-writing the theme song for Baywatch Hawaii and for his deep influence on Pacific Island music.
George was born in May 10, 1970, in Buretu, Tailevu, Fiji. After political troubles in his country, he moved to Hawaii in 1987. In 1994, he released his first music album, and from there, his music career grew quickly. Between 1999 and 2001, he helped create the Baywatch Hawaii theme song. He even acted in a 2002 Hollywood film called Blue Crush.

His death was confirmed on Wednesday July 24, 2025, according to social media reports. The Polynesian Music Network shared an emotional tribute on Facebook, saying, “He was a movement, a voice for the people, a light in the dark. There will always be only one Fiji.”

One person wrote, “The whole Pasifika is mourning. He was the king of island reggae.” Music producer Damon Elliott called him his “best friend and big brother” and said Fiji helped him through hard times with love and support.
He received numerous honors, including the Pacific Music Awards  Best Pacific International Artist in 2014 and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021. In 2024, he hosted the first Fiji Homecoming concert and had been promoting the 2025 event when he died.
