This move aims to simplify the viewing experience for users and streamline Amazon’s streaming services under one banner.
A message inside the app alerted viewers that Freevee “will be accessible until August 2025.”

All Freevee content—including original shows like Jury Duty and Bosch: Legacy, as well as live channels, licensed movies, and ad-supported content—will be available for free on Prime Video under the “Watch for Free” section, without requiring a Prime membership.
The decision to shut down Freevee follows Amazon’s earlier announcement in November 2024. At the time, Amazon stated the move was intended to create a "simpler viewing experience for customers" and reduce brand confusion. By integrating Freevee’s offerings into Prime Video, Amazon’s goal is to provide a unified and user-friendly platform. Amazon has called Prime Video the “new exclusive home” for Freevee content.

Amazon originally launched Freevee—previously known as IMDb TV—in 2019. It was a free, ad-supported streaming service featuring 24/7 live TV, licensed movies, and entertainment channels. It quickly gained popularity for its Emmy-nominated mockumentary Jury Duty and shows such as Bosch: Legacy.
“There will be no change to the content available to Prime members,” said an Amazon spokesperson. They added, “A vast offering of free streaming content will still be accessible for non-Prime members, including select Originals from Amazon MGM Studios, a variety of licensed movies and series, and a broad library of FAST channels—all available on Prime Video.”
It is not yet known whether Freevee’s shows will be altered or rebranded during the transition to Prime Video. It also remains unclear how visible Freevee titles will be for non-subscribed users. Additionally, Freevee’s live FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channels may undergo changes—Amazon has not confirmed whether these channels will remain the same, be reorganized, or removed during the move.
Earlier in 2024, Amazon also introduced an optional paid tier for ad-free Prime Video, positioning itself to compete more directly with other major streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Max, Apple TV+, and others.
Once Freevee goes offline after August 2025, its content will still be available on Prime Video without a subscription, making the platform more centralized and user-friendly.
