LAHORE (Web Desk): Lahore court has delivered its verdict in the Meesha Shafi, Ali Zafar defamation case, ruling against Meesha Shafi in connection to her sexual harassment allegations.

A sessions court in Lahore ordered Meesha Shafi to pay Rs5,000,000 to Ali Zafar in the long-running Meesha Shafi, Ali Zafar defamation case.

The verdict also bars Meesha Shafi from posting tweets related to her sexual harassment allegations against Zafar.

The case began in 2018 when Ali Zafar filed the Meesha Shafi, Ali Zafar defamation case under the Defamation Ordinance 2002, claiming that Meesha Shafi’s public statements damaged his reputation. He had initially sought Rs1,000,000,000 in damages.

The trial spanned 284 hearings and recorded statements from 20 witnesses. During the proceedings, nine judges were involved due to transfers. Lawyers Umar Tariq Gill represented Ali Zafar, while Saqib Jilani appeared for Meesha Shafi.

Following the judgment, Zafar’s team said details will become clearer once the full verdict is released. Meesha Shafi’s lawyer stated that the decision will be challenged in the high court.

The Lahore High Court had earlier directed the trial court to resolve the Meesha Shafi, Ali Zafar defamation case within 30 days, upholding prior orders restricting Shafi from making statements across media platforms regarding her sexual harassment allegations.

The case traces back to April 2018, when Meesha Shafi first accused Ali Zafar publicly on Twitter, now X, claiming he physically harassed her on multiple occasions.
