Indian playback superstar Sonu Nigam has revealed that he regularly speaks with internationally acclaimed Pakistani singer Ali Zafar, often once a week.
A video clip of Sonu Nigam, which recently went viral on social media, shows him openly appreciating Ali Zafar.
In the clip, he states, “I speak with Ali Zafar every week or two, he is a very kind and wonderful person. When minds and hearts align, love and respect always remain”
In addition to praising Zafar, Nigam also recalled his early connection with legendary Pakistani folk singer Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi.
In another interview, he expressed deep gratitude, saying, “Attaullah Ji holds a very important place in my life.
When my career began with one of his songs, he personally called me and said, ‘Mr. Sonu, I am Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi from Pakistan, and I want to tell you that you sang it beautifully.”
Nigam added that he was only 19 years old at the time and feels indebted to Attaullah for giving him confidence at the beginning of his career.
He credits his hit performance of “Achha Sila Diya Tune Mere Pyar Ka”, originally sung by Attaullah, as a turning point, a track that became immensely popular across India.

This revelation highlights the cultural bridges music continues to build between India and Pakistan despite political tensions.
Sonu Nigam’s admiration for Ali Zafar underscores mutual respect among contemporary artists, while his gratitude to Attaullah Esakhelvi reflects how Pakistani music influenced India’s playback industry.
