According to the Indian media, Mumbai-based Aanvi Kamdar, accompanied by a group of seven friends, went for an outing to the famous Kumbhe waterfall in Maharashtra’s Raigad district.
She was shooting a video at Kumbhe waterfall when she slipped and fell into the gorge. Her friends quickly informed the local authorities about the incident, prompting them to immediately come into action.
“As soon as we reached the spot, we realised that the girl had fallen nearly 300-350 feet. Even after reaching her, it was difficult to get her up, as she was injured and it was raining heavily. So we decided to get her out using a vertical pulley,” a rescuer told NDTV.
Another person involved in the rescue told the Indian media that large stones kept falling down the gorge, further complicating the rescue operation.
Kamdar was pulled out of the gorge after a six-hour operation. However, she suffered serious injuries in the accident and succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
“Her rescuers rushed her to nearby Mangaon taluka government hospital, where she died during treatment,” the Mangaon police station official said.
Authorities have urged tourists to be extra cautious while visiting waterfalls in the monsoon season.
