ECP issues arrest warrants for 225 defiant polling staffers
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued arrest warrants for 225 government employees in the wake of their continuous refusal to perform election duties during the General Elections 2024 in Shikarpur.
As they resorted to continuous absence from the election duties, District Returning Officer (DRO) Shikarpur Altaf Chachar approached the police authorities to arrest the defiant polling staffers.
Likewise, action has also been taken against teachers of public sector schools in Multan. Thirty male and female teachers of government schools have been suspended for their refusal to perform election duties, as per a notification.
As per the notification issued by the District Education Authority, women teachers are also among those suspended for not following the orders issued by the authorities in this respect.
Meanwhile, Free and Fair Election Network (FAFN) has released a review report on women candidates of political parties for general seats. According to the report, there are 275 women candidates from 111 political parties on general seats in the 2024 elections.
Female candidates are 4.6 percent of the 6,037 candidates nominated by political parties for the general seats of national and provincial assemblies. The report has carried out the analysis on the basis of Form 33 of election candidates for national and provincial assemblies. The technical application of the law applies to parties nominating at least 20 candidates for general seats.
It revealed out of total 111 political parties, 30 parties nominated more than 5pc women candidates. Four political parties nominated women candidates at the rate of 4.5 to 5 percent.
