ECP directs PEMRA to ensure implementation of election code of conduct
ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a letter to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) in which the latter has been instructed to ensure the implementation of the code of conduct for national media on the day of general elections 2024.
In the letter, it has been said that PEMRA should inform the media not to broadcast any material against Pakistan’s ideology, sovereignty, security, independence of judiciary, and national institutions.
Apart from this, no allegation or statement against national unity should be broadcast on electronic, social, and digital media.
It has been said in the letter that no material should be aired that may disturb the law and order situation during or after polling.
No survey should be conducted at polling stations on Election Day in print, electronic, or digital media.
Apart from this, it has also been directed that PEMRA should ensure that no fake news is broadcast on Election Day.
Inconclusive unofficial results can be broadcast one hour after the end of polling. During polling, it should be ensured that the media does not disturb the election process.
