Supreme Court allows Sanam Javed, Shaukat Basra to contest election
ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday allowed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists Sanam Javed and Shaukat Basra to contest the election.
The court directed to also include the names of the two in the ballot papers.
Also, the Supreme Court (SC) allowed former Punjab chief minister and PTI leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to contest the election from PP-32, Gujrat.
The court directed to print the name and election symbol of the PTI leader on the ballot papers. Pervaiz Elahi withdrew from all other constituencies.
A three-member SC bench, headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, heard the appeal against the rejection of the nomination papers of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.
Pervaiz Elahi’s lawyer Faisal Siddiqui told the court, “We have not received the full order of the returning officer yet.”
He added, “An objection was raised to the nomination papers that separate accounts were not opened for election expenses in each constituency. Pervaiz Elahi is contesting the election from five constituencies.”
Justice Athar Minallah inquired, “Where is it written in the law that five separate accounts should be opened for five constituencies?”
Lawyer Faisal Siddiqui replied, “If there is excessive expenditure in the election campaign, the accounts are looked at after the election is held. On the day of receiving the nomination papers, the police were surrounding us.”
