Cop killed in Turbat election office attack
QUETTA: (Web Desk) A policeman was killed as the Regional Election Commissioner Office in Turbat was attacked with hand grenade and firing.
Police sources said the police officer was murdered in firing outside the Election Commission’s office but no one was injured in the untoward incident.
They added that unknown suspects threw a grenade on the premises of the office and fled away while firing in the air.
Police have sealed the crime scene to find more clues about the attack.
Later, a state-run news agency reported Caretaker Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki condemned the firing incident and sought a report from the Home Department. In a statement, the CM said that this incident of terrorism was a conspiracy to disrupt the election process.
However, the provincial government is determined to provide a peaceful and conducive environment to the people and candidates for the elections, he said.
He said that the purpose of the attack was to spread fear which would be foiled through contribution of security forces and nation. He instructed the Balochistan Home Department to use all resources to arrest the accused involved in the incident.
He also expressed his grief and condolence to the family of the policeman who was martyred in the firing incident. He said that the sacrifices of the police and all the security forces for the restoration of peace would not go in vain.
