COAS, China’s vice FM discuss steps to boost defence cooperation
RAWALPINDI: (Suno News) Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir and Vice Foreign Minister of China Mr Sun Weidong on Monday discussed matters of mutual interest and measures to further enhance bilateral defence cooperation.
Mr Sun Weidong called on the chief of army staff at General Headquarters (GHQ). During the meeting, matters of mutual interest and measures to further enhance bilateral defence cooperation were discussed.
The Chinese vice foreign minister said that Pakistan and China are all weather strategic partners. He acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts towards regional peace and stability and also conveyed China’s satisfaction on security arrangements for CPEC projects.
The COAS thanked the visiting dignitary for his warm remarks and said that relations between Pakistan and China were founded on a common understanding of regional peace, stability and prosperity for the people of both countries.
Last Sunday, Mr Sun Weidong and Foreign Secretary Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi co-chaired 4th meeting of CPEC Joint Working Group on International Cooperation and Coordination where both the sides made the commitment of both countries to foster international cooperation and coordination including on CPEC.
Both the sides, reviewed with satisfaction the progress made since the third meeting of the Joint Working Group held virtually on 21 July 2022. The gathering emphasised CPEC’s pioneering role in strengthening international and regional connectivity. The meeting also appreciated the open and inclusive nature of this flagship project.
In addition, the Foreign Secretary and Sun Weidong, who is currently on a visit to Islamabad, performed inauguration of the CPEC Corner at the library of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Welcoming Mr Sun to Pakistan, the foreign secretary said that Pakistan-China friendship enjoyed complete political, institutional and public support in Pakistan. Underscoring the salience of bilateral friendship for regional peace and stability, he expressed Pakistan’s readiness to further expand and strengthen bilateral ties in all areas of cooperation.
