KARACHI (Web Desk): Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a new gas discovery in the Sawan Field, located in the District Khairpur, Sindh.

According to details, the gas discovery was made by the Sawan Joint Venture comprising UEP Beta (Operator, 25% working interest), PPL (30%), PPL Europe E&P Limited (10%), Prime AEP Limited (30%), and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (5%).

In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), PPL has confirmed that the exploratory well Sawan North Deep-1 ST-1 (SND-1 ST-1) was spud-in on September 16, 2024, reaching the depth of 14,017 feet.

The well targeted the hydrocarbon potential of the Lower Goru Formation, specifically the A-Interval Sands.

The post-completion testing of the identified A-sand interval produced encouraging results, yielding the gas at a rate of approximately 0.30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) with a flowing wellhead pressure of around 100 psig at a 128/64″ choke.

This well is the first in the Sawan area drilled using an exclusive sequence stratigraphic (trap) evaluation approach.

The successful result has not only validated this advanced geological technique but it also sets the stage for expanded exploration opportunities across the Sawan region.

PPL stated that this gas discovery represents an important milestone for the joint venture and Pakistan’s energy sector, potentially paving the way for more hydrocarbon discoveries in the future.
