The government has officially announced new rates for petroleum products. While petrol prices in Pakistan remain stable, diesel prices have been significantly increased.
According to the Petroleum Division, the price of high-speed diesel has been raised by Rs11,30 per liter. After this hike, diesel now costs Rs268,38 per liter.
Petrol prices in Pakistan, however, continue at Rs253,17 per liter. These new prices will take effect from February 1, 2026, and consumers will need to pay accordingly.
The diesel price increase is expected to directly impact transport, agriculture, and food costs, as most cargo movement and farming machinery in the country rely heavily on diesel. This may lead to further inflation and rising living costs.
Citizens and industry representatives have expressed concern over the diesel hike. Transporters and farmers warn that higher diesel costs could push prices of goods up, while keeping petrol prices in Pakistan stable only provides temporary relief.

Government sources said the decision was based on global oil prices, the value of the rupee, and financial pressures on the state.
Officials emphasized that maintaining petrol prices in Pakistan was part of a balance to ease public burden while adjusting diesel rates.
