The Karachi Commissioner has officially announced new wholesale and retail sugar prices to provide relief to citizens before Ramazan. This step aims to control rising costs and prevent profiteering during the holy month when sugar demand increases significantly.
According to the official notification, the retail sugar price has been fixed at Rs141 per kilogram, while the wholesale price has been set at Rs138 per kilogram. These prices have taken effect immediately, and all shopkeepers are required to follow the new rates without exception.
Authorities have issued a strict warning to retailers and wholesalers. Officials said strong action will be taken against anyone selling sugar above the official price. Monitoring teams have also been activated to ensure compliance and prevent violations in markets.

Sugar demand usually rises sharply during Ramazan because it is widely used in drinks and food prepared for Sehr and Iftar. To avoid artificial shortages and price manipulation, the administration decided to control prices before the holy month begins.
Citizens have welcomed this decision and expressed hope that similar price controls will be applied to other essential food items. Many people had earlier complained that sugar was being sold above official rates in several areas, creating financial pressure on families.
The administration also confirmed that crackdowns against profiteers and hoarders will continue during Ramazan. Officials said their goal is to maintain stable prices and ensure that citizens can buy essential items without difficulty.
This decision shows the government is trying to act early before Ramazan begins. Fixing prices can help stop sudden price jumps. However, real relief depends on strict enforcement in markets. If monitoring is weak, shopkeepers may still charge extra. Strong action will be necessary to make this decision effective.
