ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The latest inflation snapshot has once again unsettled consumers, as several essential items recorded a price hike despite an overall weekly decline in the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI).

According to official data, diesel became more expensive by 1.06%, directly impacting transport and daily goods movement. Eggs also climbed by 0.91%, adding pressure on household budgets.

Rice prices also surged, with basmati broken rising by 0.84% and IRRI-6/9 going up by 0.78%. Firewood became costlier by 0.59%, and even kitchen staples like beef and mutton were not spared, with beef increasing by 0.42% and mutton by 0.31%.

Vegetable ghee, a crucial cooking item, saw a rise of 0.25% in the 1kg pack. Meanwhile, energy savers went up by 0.23%, showing that inflation is not sparing household utilities either. Pulse moong, a basic protein source, also registered a minor rise of 0.10%.

On a yearly basis, the burden deepens. Ladies sandals skyrocketed by 55.62%, tomatoes surged 49.02%, while sugar increased by 30.17%. Gas charges for Q1 rose by 29.85%, making energy more expensive. Pulses, wheat flour, firewood, ghee and beef all showed notable annual increases.

Even though the overall inflation rate fell slightly, the increase in fuel, food, and daily essentials shows how inflation silently eats into people’s pockets. For families, the rise in eggs, rice, beef and ghee matters more than technical percentages. Small hikes in these basics are enough to shake household budgets.
