LAHORE (Web Desk): Punjab government has officially fixed new prices for flour bags of 10kg and 20kg, issuing a fresh notification to control rising food costs.

Provincial Information Minister Uzma Bukhari announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the 10kg flour bag will now cost Rs905, while the 20kg flour bag has been priced at Rs1,810.

She further confirmed that the official price of roti has been fixed at Rs14. The minister made it clear that “no one will be allowed to raise prices under the excuse of floods.” The Punjab government has also shared the notification of these revised prices.

This announcement comes after reports of a recent hike in flour prices across the country. According to the Bureau of Statistics, flour prices had increased in several regions, raising concerns among households already struggling with inflation.

Meanwhile, the ongoing flood crisis has pushed food prices even higher. The Bureau of Statistics noted that prices of 18 essential commodities rose last week alone, pushing weekly inflation from 2.95 percent to 3.57 percent.

Experts warn that inflation may worsen in the coming days as food supply chains remain disrupted due to the floods, intensifying pressure on families already facing financial hardship.

The Punjab government’s decision to fix flour and roti prices may provide short-term relief, but it cannot mask the bigger picture. Rising inflation, supply chain disruptions, and the devastating flood situation are pushing food prices to unsustainable levels.

While the government has taken a strong stance against artificial price hikes, experts believe that natural market pressures will continue to drive costs higher. The real test will be whether the state can stabilize supplies fast enough to prevent a deeper inflationary spiral.
