This temporary offer coincides with new tax proposals in the Federal Budget 2025–2026, which include a significant increase in the General Sales Tax (GST) on small vehicles, including 850cc cars, from 12% to 18%.  The hike is being criticized even though it is a part of the government s larger attempt to increase revenue.

Chaired by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue on June 17 held a session that was firmly against the GST increase. They highlighted the amount of burden this increment puts on the middle class and proposed decreasing the rate to 14% or 15%.
