K-Electric filed a petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to request the cut.
The company proposed refund comes after the utility charged higher per unit electricity rates in December 2024.
As part of the monthly fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for December, K-Electric plans to refund approximately Rs4.94 billion to its power consumers.
To review the company s request for a provisional negative FCA, the regulator has scheduled a public hearing for February 26.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that electricity tariffs would be further reduced for both domestic consumers and industries through reforms in the electricity sector.
While chairing a review meeting in Islamabad on Friday, he expressed satisfaction over the ongoing changes in the sector, highlighting the positive outcomes.
PM Shehbaz reiterated his commitment to ensuring the supply of affordable and sustainable power. He emphasized that revising agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) is not only saving the national treasury but also contributing to lower electricity prices for consumers.
