The FBR shared some encouraging news ahead of the 2025–26 federal budget. Its Chairman Rashid Mehmood Langrial confirmed that no new taxes will be imposed on solar panel imports, putting fears of rising solar energy costs to rest.
In a time when energy prices and environmental concerns are already challenging, this decision brings major relief. The FBR clarified that no proposals are under consideration to increase tax rates on solar panels, offering reassurance to thousands of users and importers.
In a major win for the education sector, the FBR chairman revealed that teachers will receive a 25% income tax rebate starting from the next fiscal year. For the current year, the rebate will be offered either as a refund or an adjustment, depending on the teacher’s tax profile.

Although solar panel users and teachers have reason to celebrate, the FBR is also reviewing tax exemptions available to various other sectors. Changes may be expected, but targeted reliefs are being carefully planned.
Further developments include the Senate Standing Committee on Finance approving the Income Tax Second Amendment Bill 2025. Chairman FBR added that Pakistan is in talks with the IMF to secure relief for salaried individuals, and discussions are underway to support other deserving sectors as well.
In a post on social media platform X, Adviser to Finance Khurram Shehzad confirmed that the federal budget will be presented on June 10, 2025, as scheduled. The Economic Survey will be revealed a day earlier, on June 9, outlining key economic indicators and performance from the past year.
With inflation and energy challenges looming large, the FBR’s assurance of no new tax on solar panels could encourage further solar adoption in Pakistan — a much-needed step for energy independence. The 25% income tax rebate for teachers is also a meaningful gesture to uplift educators financially. While some sectors may see reduced exemptions, the early signs from Budget 2025 indicate a people-first approach, especially for middle- and lower-income groups. All eyes are now on June 10, when the full picture will be revealed.
