Bilawal demands immediate restoration of mobile phone service across country

ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) Former foreign minister and Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari demanded the restoration of mobile phone service across the country amid polling for the General Election 2024. “The mobile phone service should be restored immediately in the country,” he said.

In a statement on social media platform X, Bilawal said that the party had been directed to approach the election commission and the courts to get the mobile phone service restored.

Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, an independent candidate from the National Assembly constituency NA-47 and NA-48, alleged that the suspension of the mobile phone service across the country was the start of rigging.

In his statement on X, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that suspending the contact of candidates with their agents and election machinery was totally unfair.

“Police brutality has also been there for some time. By the time the news comes from somewhere, it will be too late. Elections with bullying and rigging are not acceptable,” he had stated.

The interior ministry said in a statement that it had been decided to temporarily suspend the internet and mobile phone services across the country given the recent terrorist attacks that claimed many lives.

“As a result of the recent incidents of terrorism in the country which claimed the precious lives of many, security measures are indispensable to maintain law and order and deal with possible threats,” it had said.

It is to be noted here that the internet service faced disruptions despite an assurance by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) that the internet would be available to users on Election Day.
